New Decade, New Mixes

It's been a few months since I've has time to post any new material with work and personal commitments getting in the way. It seems inconceivable that it's already March meaning that WMC is only just around the corner. Anyway, I've included each of my most recent mix shows below along with a little narrative on the latest installment. Hope you enjoy the music, more to come very soon (time permitting of course).

As with all the Frisky Rhythms shows, there’s no attempt to educate with the latest promos or exclusive edits, rather it’s a journey featuring a few tunes that happen to sound good together. The music straddles five decades and the aim is always to provide an enjoyable experience. I hope to raise a smile or two and that the tunes prove ideal company for a car journey or simply for listening around the office and at home.

The show starts with an old Peppermint Jam classic from BMR, "Check It Out" is included in its instrumental version. We then move onto one of Andrea Fiorino's excellent creations as he blends a Fanatix instrumental with the vocals of Michael Procter who sadly passed away recently. "Love Don't Live" was a staple in my sets back in the 90s and Andrea's interpretation puts a lovely spin on the track at an opportune moment. Next up is "My Mind" by Dutchican Soul ft Karmina Dai; a track that leans heavily on a hook from Shalamar's "Take That To The Bank". This leads us nicely into Mike Dunn (MD-Xpress) who makes it funky again with "Natural High"; an excellent fit on Glitterbox.

As we approach the half-way point the music moves firmly into soulful house territory with a sumptuous instrumental production from Reelsoul & Mark Di Meo. This provides the perfect connection to Mark Di Meo’s floor filler “Surrender” with Liz Jai on vocals which is doing some serious damage on Defected. The seventh track included is “Without You” by Tommy Glasses which is underpinned by a groove that reminds me very much of the Gap Band’s classic composition “Outstanding” and some gorgeous female vocals. From there we really do move to a classic as Joey Negro gets to work on The O’ Jays “Put Our Heads Together” which believe it or not is 47 years old this year. Sticking with the 70s theme, we then find Dr Packer reworking Loleatta Holloway’s “Hit & Run” which dates back to 1977.

Heading towards the close, Moodena’s “Dumplings Over Flowers” brings us back into the current century even though it has a vibe firmly anchored back in the disco era. Last but by no means least we conclude with the Disco Town Remix of Mousse T’s “Melodie”, the original of which has been tearing up floors since late 2018.

Frisky Rhythms Episode 20-03 was compiled and mixed by Dean Serafini for JJazproJect Sessions
