This show starts and ends firmly in the 90s which I've long regarded as the golden era for house music. It's a little housier than my recent sessions and is likely to be the final outing of the year.

Louie Vega - Another Day In My Life / Deep Burnt [Nervous Records]
Louie Vega returns (not that he's been away), with an EP that offers a twin-pronged preview of his upcoming Expansions In the NYC project. Stylistcally, both tracks are immediately identifiable as Louie's productions and both will cause mayhem on the right dance floor. "Another Day In My Life" is underpinned by chugging rhythms, a Philly-Disco-esque flavour and a healthy dose of soul from the vocals. Deep Burnt is a cover of a Pepe Bradock track from 1999 which itself draws inspiration from Freddie Hubbard's "Little Sunflower". There's something in there for everyone with elements of soul, jazz, funk and deeper vibes blended together. Axel Tosca (on keys), turns in a sublime performance and with Mike Dunn delivering vocal ad-libs, the result is simply mesmerising. If ever two tracks defied the labelling that the scene has become guilty of, it's these. Both tracks cross musical boundaries, defying inflexible definitions. Great music, pure and simple!

Tune of the Week
Elbert Phillips ft Terrance Downs - Feeling Good [Tambor Music]
This week's pick comes from Tambor Music, a label that's new for me although it has already been responsible for eight previous releases. There are six mixes in all with Elbert's Original Mix and Dub both treading a soulful, tribal path. Mike Dunn's Blackball Soulfrica Mix has made an instant impression and will definitely feature in an upcoming radio show before too long has passed. The blend of crisp rhythms and charming chords are really easy on the ear. Mike's Instrumental and TV Track retain the vibe of his remix while offering the opportunity for a little creativity during a set. The final mix is by no means the least as Kalim Shabazz produces a soothing, interpretation that keeps things soulful. Many will recognise the voice of Terrance Downs who has featured on a number of releases from Ananda Project over the years. His performance on vocals is simply amazing and the result is an engaging piece of music that I'm confident I'll enjoy revisiting for years to come. Highly recommended!
