Frisky Rhythms Episode 19-01

Frisky Rhythms Episode 19-01

Following an absence of more than a year, I finally dusted down my equipment and put together a new show. This episode contains a select few of the tracks that I've picked up over the last 12 months all of which are available on Traxsource. Links to purchase each of the tracks are also included in the notes below.

We start things off with "Funkin 4 Two" by Adele.Be which was released by Peppermint Jam back in April. It's a funky jam that's underpinned by some rather uplifting keys. This is blended into CPEN ft Bluey Robinson - "I'm Searching" which is notable for a thunderous bassline and the most soulful of vocal deliveries. Remixed by Kerri Chandler and released on his own Madhouse Records at the tail end of 2018 this is a must have for anyone who missed it. Next up is the deep and edgy "OAYSIS" by Eventual Groove which has been skillfully reinterpreted by Spiritchaser. It's been floating around since March and it's captivating vibe gets me every time. From there we move to another release from Peppermint Jam in the shape of Paul Rudder & Hurlee whose "Let's Rock It" appears in its Coeo Remix complete with an old school analog bassline that implores you to move those feet. There's a slight change in direction as we head back to the tail end of 2018 again for Opolopo's stellar remix of the Spencer Morales (DJ Spen & John Morales)cover version of "I Need Your Lovin'". The Teena Marie classic should need no introduction and Tasha LaRae's vocals are more than worthy of gracing the track. We move on but the vibe stays soulful as John Morales puts his M&M stamp on "It's Over Now" by Reverendos Of Soul ft Kareem Shabaz which the prolific Groove Culture label released back in January. The emotionally charged vocals and beautiful keys make for an irresistible combination. It seemed only logical to progress from there to Random Soul - "Night Talking" and an old fashioned keyboard driven remix from Groove Culture's own Micky More & Andy Tee. Next up we find Moon Rocket & Re-Tide deliivering "People Everywhere"; a funky slice of soulful house that's perfectly suited to the Soulfuric Deep imprint. Heading towards the back end of the set we arrive at one of my favourite tracks of 2019 so far as Marie Tweek's beautiful voice features heavily on Kelvin Sylvester's "Here We Go Again". Released back in April on Vibe Boutique this is quite simply one of the finest slices of soulful house you could hope to hear. Continuing with the soulful theme we find former En Vogue and Lucy Pearl vocalist Dawn Robinson in collaboration with Mood II Swing on another uplifting track, the aptly entitled "Get Up". Personally I find it very difficult to avoid singing along. The show closes with a couple of terrific releases from Dave Lee's Z Records in the shape of Lakeshore Commission's "Together (Right Now)" and Raquel Rodriguez "We Go Together" both of which get the Joey Negro treatment just to make sure you're not sitting still.
