The Keith Thompson Project - Rhythm of Life [Underground Solution]

With a career that spans five decades, Keith Thompson has been around a lot longer than many are aware. In fact this particular track has a much longer history than I knew about given that it was the remixes by Soulfuric's Brian Tappert & Marc Pomeroy that brought it to my attention in 2002. Following a wee bit of digging (and a bit of prompting from Keith himself), I discovered that there were Tony Humphries mixes from 1993 and that even those weren't the orginal. The track had in fact been refashioned from the original by Humphries to focus more on the background vocals from India, Debbie Cole & Connie Harvey. In this instance I've homed in on the "UBP Remix" although the the other mixes are all fully deserving of your consideration too. A selection of the mixes can be found and purchased on Traxsource (link provided). Amazing production and outstanding vocals make this an essential track even after the passage of all those years.

Flashback 1998

Lenny Fontana presents Andricka Hall - I'll Give You Love [Soulshine Recordings]

Here's another track that used to feature regularly in my sets. Released back in 1998 on Louis Benedetti's label Soulshine Recordings, "I'll Give You Love" is a hands in the air anthem with a turbo-charged groove. Lenny Fontana's "Anthem Vocal Mix" is a driven by a combination of keys and driving uptempo rhythms. My weapon of choice though was the "Jazz-n-Groove Club Mix" complete with booming bassline and bounding rhythms. The infectious yet edgy keyboard arrangement that typified the JnG sound of Marc Pomeroy and Brian Tappert is very much in evidence both on their vocal and dub versions. Still brilliant 23 years on with the full suite of mixes available on Traxsource.

Flashback 1994

Federal Hill - We Got It Goin' On [Sub-Urban Records]

Today's journey back in time finds us in 1994 revisiting a classic that was originally released on Sub-Urban. "We Got It Goin' On" is an uplifiting slice of soulful house with a throbbing bassline, bounding beats and contagious keyboards. The vocals are provided by Karen Daughtry with production from Gary Tutalo and a stellar set of remixes headlined by Tommy Musto and Victor Simonelli. The TMVS Club Mix has long been my preferred version but Marc Pomeroy's Lunch Pail Remix is also rather tasty.

Flashback

Heading back to 1996 and a track that I must have played hundreds of times. In actual fact this was not the mix that I played most frequently, "The Original Vibe Mix" being my weapon of choice but every version saw multiple plays over the years and it's still a track I never tire of hearing.
