Flashback 1992
Urbanized ft Silvano - Helpless [Maxi Records]
Heading back 29 years revisiting a track that is every bit as effective on the right floor now as it was back in the day. I'm clear about when I first heard this; Pete Tong had taken over the Friday evening slot from Jeff Young on Radio 1; his weekly show packed with upfront tunes that straddled virtually the full spectrum of this thing we call house. Between his show and DJ mag I would then head to the record store armed with my wish list for the coming weeks. "Helpless" was one of those tracks I first heard on his "Essential Selection" and I was hooked from the first few bars of hearing the Kenlou Remix as Louie Vega and Kenny Dope nailed it and then some. I can't believe there are too many house heads who haven't played or danced to this many times over the last few decades. Considering the pedigree of everyone involved (Urbanized are another alias of John Ciafone & Lem Springsteen aka Mood II Swing), it should come as no surprise just how long "Helpless" has endured.

Flashback 1992
I still remember picking up this one on promo back in 1992. At the time Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzales were knocking them out of the park time after time with their remixes. Crazy Love was (I think), the third or fourth single taken from Ce Ce's debut album with each of them receiving remixes from production teams at the top of their game. Nearly 30 years on this version still works very nicely indeed.

Flashback
Martha Wash - Carry On [RCA Records]
Heading back in time for the first issue of what can only be described as classic house music. While the song received subsequent remixes from Todd Terry, Full Intention and Tuff Jam in 1997 it was Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez as Masters At Work who delivered the mixes that have stood the test of time. By 1992, and following on from her role in The Weather Girls, Martha had went on to provide the vocals for massive commercially succesful productions by Black Box and C&C Music Factory. In the case of Black Box, Martha's vocals were used without her permission and without payment and it was the subsequent litigation and resulting publicity that helped to propel the start of her solo career. The vocals on this one are quite breathtaking and I've picked out a couple of the Masters At Work mixes for your consideration. Enjoy!

Flashback
Heading back to 1991 and one of my earliest memories of Masters At Work. Since day one it's always been the Remix Dub that's worked best for me.

Flashback
Heading back to 1996 as The Braxtons cover a Diana Ross classic. As if that wasn't enough in itself, the track has Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzales at the controls for an unforgettable result!

Flashback
Heading back to 1992 and one heck of a remix from Louie Vega & Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, aka Masters At Work. From the very first time I heard the promo I've been hooked on this version which is a perfect example of how a house remix of a soul track should sound.
